The 11 Gigaton Challenge
Eric Hansotia and the future of agriculture
If we continue as we are, agriculture will produce 15 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide. According to scientific studies, this should be reduced to 4 gigatonnes. "Big changes are needed, and we have been preparing for them for a long time," says AGCO CEO Eric Hansotia.
"We are developing and designing solutions to meet the challenges in agriculture, including battery electric propulsion, hydrogen, hydrogen fuel cells, methane and methanol." In developing our engines, we have managed to reduce harmful particulate emissions as well as nitrogen oxides to a fraction of what they were a decade ago. For several years now, our engines have passed even the most stringent emissions regulations by a significant margin. What's more, our engines are compatible with renewable HVO fuels.
The groundbreaking thing about our latest CORE engine family is that by further developing current diesel engines, they can be made compatible with the alternative fuels of the future.
