Fendt wins Gold at INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA HORTITECHNICA 2018

From November 4 to 6, the leading trade fair for the technical production of wine, fruit and specialist crops will once again take place at the Stuttgart Exhibition Centre. Fendt and its sales partners will be exhibiting in Hall 10, Stand 10E31.

As the doors of the fair opened on November 4, the German Winegrowers' Association in cooperation with the German Agricultural Society (DLG) recognised outstanding innovations and further developments, which have led to advances in the wine, fruit juice and specialist crops industry. An international, independent panel of judges announced the winners of the Gold and Silver Innovation Prize, presented by EU Commissioner, Günther Oettinger.

The Fendt e100 Vario received the Gold Innovation Award. In the words of the panel:

The Fendt e100 Vario from AGCO GmbH in Marktoberdorf is the first fully electric narrow-gauge tractor for viticulture use. The judges see this new development as a decisive improvement in today's standard of tractor (those with internal combustion engine). The batteries on the Fendt e100 Vario allow up to six hours of practical use and is quick to charge using standard interfaces. Charging batteries with regenerative power can reduce costs. Another major advantage over conventional management systems is the reduction in dust particles, nitrogen oxides, CO² levels, noise emission and vibration while driving. Even at full torque, the programmed speed can be controlled to a greater extent, thereby increasing safety at work. A number of electrical and conventional pre-existing attachments can be connected to the Fendt e100 Vario, which, bar the engine, is designed like a conventional tractor.

"We are currently producing some Fendt e100 Vario models for our own testing in research and development," says Walter Wagner, Head of Fendt Tractor Development. "We can use these models to learn more about the possible areas of application and the economic potential of an electric tractor. We want to gain key insights into the tractor's scope across a variety of uses, and that absolutely includes viticulture and fruit growing. You can attach today's standard implements, because the Fendt e100 Vario is built like the 200 series."

During a later tour of the trade fair, guests of honour, including Peter Hauk, Minister for Rural Affairs in Baden-Württemberg and Joachim Rukwied, President of the German Farmers' Association, were impressed with the innovative technology on show at the Fendt stand.

Fendt will be at the INTERVITIS INTERFRUCTA HORTITECHNICA again this year, sharing a stand with its sales partners, BayWa, Raiffeisen Waren-Zentrale Rhein-Main and ZG Raiffeisen. A total of 8 200-series tractors will be showcased: 4 narrow-gauge tractors, from the Fendt 208 V, 209 V, 210 V to the Fendt 211 V Vario, as well as fruit growing and specialist crop models, the Fendt 211 P Vario, 210 F Vario and 211 F Vario. All models are exhibited with implements from reputable manufacturers, including foliage cutters, cultivators and roller hoes, to demonstrate practical solutions to trade visitors.

field monitoring solutions from FarmFacts

The Fendt booth will also feature field monitoring solutions from FarmFacts: The self-sufficient NEXT weather station collects weather data to use in controlling disease and infestation. With the NEXT CropView field camera, you can visually observe the crop on the computer and analyse it over the entire vegetation period. The NEXT iScout pest trap has a camera that identifies, counts and photographs pests.

Opening session with a PowerPoint presentation

The trade fair also hosted the 63rd International DWV Congress (German Winegrowers' Association). As part of the opening session on Monday, Peter-Josef Paffen, Chairman of the Fendt Management Board, gave a talk on "Digitisation: Challenges for Mechanical Engineering". "Digitization is not a value in itself," he stressed, “It can only create value by linking collected data then bringing real benefits to the customer, by further improving the quality of the farmer's work for example, because much more reliable data helps you makes decisions about the harvest". He went on to explain, "Ultimately, increasing the uptime of your machines ensures the operational safety of every implement."
